Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 20, 2026

Protecting your personal data is important to me. This Privacy Policy informs you, in accordance with Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which personal data is processed when you visit this website (walter-a-jablonowski.github.io), for what purpose and on what legal basis.

This website is a static profile and business site. There is no own web analytics, no tracking and no advertising profiling. No tracking or marketing cookies are set.

1. Controller

The controller responsible under the GDPR is:

Walter A. Jablonowski
Am Anger 9
96135 Stegaurach
Germany

E-mail: walter.a.jablonowski@gmail.com
Phone: +49 (0) 176 67 25 99 59

A data protection officer is not legally required and has not been appointed.

2. Hosting and server log files (GitHub Pages)

This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub Inc., 88 Colin P Kelly Jr St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA (a subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation).

When you access the website, the host automatically collects information transmitted by your browser and stores it in so-called server log files. This may include:

  • the IP address of the requesting device,
  • date and time of the request,
  • name and URL of the file retrieved,
  • the website from which the access was made (referrer URL),
  • the browser and operating system used and, where applicable, the name of your access provider,
  • HTTP status code and amount of data transferred.

This data is processed to deliver the website and to ensure stability and security. The legal basis is the legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in a technically sound and secure operation. I myself have no direct access to these log files; no tracking is performed by me.

This processing may involve a transfer to the USA. GitHub/Microsoft is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; in addition, EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) serve as appropriate safeguards for the third-country transfer.

3. Fonts and icons (self-hosted)

The fonts (Google Fonts "Roboto" and "Source Code Pro") and the icons used (Font Awesome) are served locally from this server. When the website loads, no connection is made to servers of Google, Cloudflare or any other third party; in particular, no IP addresses are transmitted to Google or font CDNs.

4. Cookies and local storage

This website does not use tracking cookies. It only uses your browser's localStorage to remember technically necessary settings:

  • Cookie/notice consent (waj:homepage:cookieConsent): stores that you have acknowledged the notice banner so it is not shown again.
  • Language and display hints (e.g. waj:homepage:langHintDismissed, waj:homepage:siteVisited): control whether hints or the loading screen appear again.

These entries serve solely the function and convenience of the site, contain no personal profiles and are not transmitted to third parties. The legal basis for technically necessary storage is § 25(2) TDDDG and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. You can delete these entries at any time via your browser settings.

5. Contact form and e-mail contact

If you use the contact form or send me an e-mail, I process the data you provide (name, e-mail address, subject and the content of your message) in order to handle and respond to your request.

The contact form is sent via the service EmailJS (EmailJS Inc., USA), which technically delivers the message to my e-mail inbox. In doing so, the data you enter is transmitted to EmailJS and may be processed in the USA; EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) serve as an appropriate safeguard. Transmission is encrypted (TLS).

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (initiation or performance of pre-contractual measures) where your request relates to a contract, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in handling requests). Providing the data is voluntary; however, without your name, e-mail address and message I cannot process your request.

6. Voice assistant (AI via microphone)

The website optionally offers an AI-based voice assistant. It only becomes active when you explicitly start it (by clicking the microphone icon) and grant your browser microphone permission. Without this active step, no audio data is captured.

Once started, your voice input is processed in real time. For this, the audio data is transmitted via a relay service operated by me (a Cloudflare Worker) to the Google Live API (Google AI Studio / Gemini), processed and transcribed there, and the answer is returned as audio. The recipients involved are Cloudflare Inc. (USA) and Google LLC (USA); processing takes place in the USA. Both providers are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; in addition, EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR) apply.

I do not store the voice content permanently myself; it serves only to immediately answer your request during the session. Google's privacy terms additionally apply to processing by Google. The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you give by starting the assistant and granting microphone permission and which you can withdraw at any time by ending the session.

7. Map (OpenStreetMap)

The home page embeds an interactive map in the contact area to show my location. The map software Leaflet is served locally from this server. The map material (the individual map tiles), however, is retrieved from the servers of OpenStreetMap when the page loads. It is operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom.

When the map loads, your IP address is transmitted to OpenStreetMap, as this is technically necessary to deliver the map tiles to your browser. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in an appealing presentation of my location under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. For the United Kingdom, an adequacy decision of the European Commission is in place. Further information can be found in OpenStreetMap's privacy policy: wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

8. Recipients and transfers to third countries

Your data is only shared to the extent described above. Recipients or categories of recipients are:

  • GitHub Inc. / Microsoft (USA) – hosting of the website (server log files),
  • EmailJS Inc. (USA) – delivery of contact form messages,
  • Cloudflare Inc. (USA) and Google LLC (USA) – only when the voice assistant is actively used,
  • OpenStreetMap Foundation (United Kingdom) – provision of the map tiles.

Where data is transferred to the USA, the transfer is based on the European Commission's adequacy decision under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on EU Standard Contractual Clauses pursuant to Art. 46 GDPR. For transfers to the United Kingdom, an adequacy decision of the European Commission is in place.

9. Storage period

Server log files are stored by the host only for a limited period. I retain data from contact requests for as long as is necessary to handle your request and within the scope of statutory retention obligations; thereafter it is deleted. On request, I will delete your enquiry at any time, unless legal obligations prevent this.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have, in particular, the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • right of access (Art. 15 GDPR),
  • right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR),
  • right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR),
  • right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
  • right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
  • right to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR),
  • right to withdraw consent with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).

To exercise these rights, an informal message to the contact details above is sufficient.

11. Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for me is:

Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA)
Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany
www.lda.bayern.de

12. External links

This website contains links to external third-party websites (e.g. LinkedIn, GitHub, X, YouTube, Google Maps). When you click these links you are taken to the respective providers' sites, over whose data processing I have no influence. The privacy terms of the respective providers apply.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

I will update this Privacy Policy whenever changes to the features offered or to the legal framework make this necessary. The current version published here applies in each case.
